Hi, I’m Dominique. I built RehearseAI because I was very, very bad at interviews.

Not bad at the job. Bad at the interview. There’s a difference, and for a long stretch of my life that difference was the whole problem.

Here is how it went. I’d get the email — “We’d love to chat!” — and feel great for about a day. Then the call would start, and something in my brain would quietly hand the controls to a nervous intern who had never met me. I’d hear myself say things like “I’m a people person” and think, who is talking right now?Afterwards I’d remember every good answer I should have given, usually in the shower, usually three days later, usually out loud.

Interviews: plenty. Offers: none. My inbox was a museum of “we’ve decided to move forward with other candidates,” and I had the full collection.

So I did what any reasonable person does when they can’t fix themselves: I built a robot to interview me. Over and over. At 11 p.m. In a hoodie. The first version was not kind, and it was not pretty, but it did the one thing no friend could do — it was available every single night, it never got bored of my rambling, and it told me the truth about my answers without wincing first. I practised the way you practise a free throw. Badly, then less badly, then one day without thinking about it.

Then the strangest thing happened. The offers started showing up. Not one — several, close together, from companies I had actually wanted. I went from “please, anyone” to sitting at my kitchen table with a spreadsheet, agonising over which one to say yes to. I would like to tell you I handled that gracefully. I made a pros-and-cons list with colour coding. My partner staged an intervention.

That whiplash is the whole reason RehearseAI exists as a product and not just a thing on my laptop. The gap between “can do the job” and “can survive the interview” is trainable. Nobody told me that. It felt like a personality flaw, and it was actually just a skill I’d never rehearsed.
